Arpeggio

"Sleeping Lessons" has quickly become my favorite Shins song, slyly but confidently surpassing its logical predecessor, "Kissing the Lipless". In the way that song's tensely strummed acoustic opening anticipated the noise to come, Mercer's impressive vocals in "Sleeping" preempt its lively second half. This is how I like my Shins: loud and fast and, dare I say, thrilling. Too bad these songs only come at the beginning of their records.

As for the new Clap Your Hands, I just don't know.

I love this opening track, too. But Wincing The Night Away, imho, is a far cry from Chutes Too Narrow--one of my all-time favorite albums.

I've been enjoying your site very much. I have a fair amount of MP3 downloads on my blog at balancemybrain.net.

And thanks for sharing your Top 10 albums of 2006. I've suddenly become a big Brand New fan. I am (right now) working on my own top 10 of 2006.

I'm going to add Bows + Arrows to my blogroll, and recommend to my friends.

Cheers!
Damian

Great blog! I stumbled across it this week and plan on reading it regularly.

I'm with you about the new Clap Your Hands Say Yeah. It's sort of one of those records you're supposed to like, but have a hard time finding anything to really latch onto.

Anyway, keep up the good work. And your top-10 list, save Brand New and Joanna Newsom, was spot on.

agreed. Wincing doesn't come near Chutes, but this song is awesome.

as for the Clap Your Hands... i've listened to it 4 or 5 times, and while it doesn't match the heights of the s/t, how the hell could it?

i've read a lot of complaints about the busy production, but if anything, it's what i enjoy most about the new record.

glad to see you're posting (a little more) regularly... still one of my favorite blogs!

Agreed. I've been listening to this track nonstop at work, so I hear the echos of the beginning part of the song if it's not actually on.

Brilliant album. I haven't found any faults with it, and see it as more of a maturation than a degradation.

I'm with you fellars.
"Wincing..." is good all the way through. I listen to this album far more than "Chutes too Narrow" and have found that it has grown on me much faster, too.
