radio session: British Sea Power

Cokemachineglow's excellent/hilarious "Listravaganza!" mentions British Sea Power's latest, Open Season, as a mediocre album. Seeing this made me think at first, "No! BSP is great!" which is true, but beside the point. Open Season is good, but nowhere near as good as their debut The Decline of British Sea Power. The band's sound is a bit fragile, making the songs cold and crystalline and a little less memorable than the frenetic and urgent naturalism of the first album. So while it may be mediocre in the sense of not living up to expectations, it's still highly enjoyable, and at times quite gorgeous, if a bit restrained. I think they should have stuck with the new record's original title, Bring Me The Head Of British Sea Power, that would have changed everything.

Here are some songs from a Radio 2 session, thanks to the wonderful fansite Salty Water:

British Sea Power - It Ended On An Oily Stage (radio session)

British Sea Power - How Will I Ever Find My Way Home? (radio session)

British Sea Power - Oh Larsen B. (radio session)
